Apple’s new iPhone 3G, coming soon

Apples new iPhone 3G, coming soonApple’s chief Steve Jobs unveils faster, cheaper iPhone – Jun. 9, 2008

Thanks go out to a new-found bud over at “The Shameless watching of TV” blog who got me interested in the iPhone. Since my Motorola PEBL is already dying a quick and horrid death after only two years, I had made up my mind yesterday that I was going to pull the proverbial trigger (complete with swap to AT&T) when quite serendipitously a new “3G” version was announced yesterday.

“Twice the speed, half the cost” is the rallying cry from Apple with the new versions tallying in at $199 (8GB) and $299 (16GB) respectively. The new phones, still apparently tied to AT&T’s wireless service will be released July 11th, and I’ve made up my mind that I’ll just have to bite the bullet and grab one ASAP.

  1. Yay! That’s me!

Anyhoo… Yup, can’t wait for the new iPhone. I was planning on taking the 11th off from work so I can stand in line the night before and all that jazz. It’s all about the experience.

BUT… I think I’ll wait a few days, let things settle down and see how things go at the Apple store/AT&T.

I was a little concerned on how they are planning to activate the phones, and what the deal is with signing yet ANOTHER 2 year contract. AT&T is lucky I already had them, otherwise, I’d be a little more peeved at the goings on.

Meh, whatever makes them the money, I guess.

    WOOHOO! iPhone Solidarity!!!

  2. According to GizModo
(which has been a great source of info on this issue)

…it will have to be activated in store (at AT&T or Apple Store), which takes 10-12 minutes, meaning that first day line is going to SUCK. And you will have to camp out, since there won’t be any online ordering at launch—and Glenn was mum on how many phones there’d be to go around

There is another story there showing how they’re going to handle current subscribers, but I haven’t been able to find it.
