In the last 6 months, I’ve done a lot of traveling, mostly to big cities such as Orlando, DC, and NYC. This week however, I find myself in Nashville, TN for training on Microsoft SharePoint, and — outside of the class — bored to ever-lovin’ death.
Twice this week so far, I’ve ended up at the converted Opry Mills Mall (formerly known as Opryland Amusement Park) watching movies. “Paul Blart: Mall Cop” and “Bride Wars” respectively, but outside of that, I’ve religiously checked the events calendars such as eventful.com and found that there’s absolutely NOTHING to do in Nashville on the average week night.
Might as well be Huntsville for all that matters.
If you’re reading this and can lead me out of this conundrum sometime this week, please let me know..
I mean, for Jiminy Cricket’s sake, my entertainment for last night consisted of driving to the local Wal-mart in the midst of January in the vain hope of finding swim trunks so I could enjoy the hotel’s indoor pool / sauna.
Save me!

You’ve probably already been down on Broadway and 2nd Ave — if not, that’s the honkytonk area. Music Row has some cool clubs that may have Writers’ Nights, the big thing in Nashvegas.
You could venture down to Hillsborough Village (head west on Broadway and veer left onto 21st Ave. Go past Vandy and you’ll be there.), or head down to Green Hills, where there are cool shops, clubs, restaurants, etc. (continue past Hillsborough Village on 21st…will become Hillsborough Pike after crossing I-440). The Predators, our pro hockey team, may be in town and playing at the Sommet Center, which is right down on Broadway, too.
Good luck! Nashville really is a fun town, but not if you don’t know where to go!
Thanks very much Suzanne!
I never realized how close I was to the Broadway area so I wandered over to Blackstone Brewery tonight for a “Beer Sampler” and what has to be termed my favorite Shepherd’s Pie that I’ve ever experienced.
Alas, the genesis of my boggle with finding something to do seems to be that I’ve never quite been a follower of country music — aside from the occasional obligatory trip to the Opry (at Ryman Auditorium at least).
Now that I realize how close I am to the place to be, I have the week pretty much clocked out, and have you to thank for it.
Oohhh…that Shepherd’s Pie is to die for! Just had that last week myself.
Very glad to hear you’ve found things to do! There’s so much here sometimes it’s hard to narrow it down. If ever in doubt, pick up a free copy of the Nashville Scene or the Rage — they have good entertainment sections.
I didn’t even mention what’s available in East Nashville, or down Printer’s Alley, so you’ll still have plenty to discover on subsequent trips here.
Enjoy your visit, and don’t be a stranger to our fair city!
